I was thinking of ordering a service manual for my 02 2500HD crew cab. Does anyone have one and what do you think of them? Worth the money?

I would get a Haynes or a Chilton's if they make one...for your truck...always a good investment..

I own the 5 volume set for my '01, the same 5 manuals the dealer has. I think they are certainly worth owning, but some may think the $120 dollar purchase price may be a bit steep. The manuals are complete, and have detailed instructions/illustrations to fix everything in the trucks. They will come in handy once warranty runs out. Hopefully the manuals can sit on the shelf and collect dust....

If I were you, I'd buy them, or a Haynes as BDBWTE recommended.

5 volume set from Helminc.com is definitely worth the $120, especially if you want to work on your truck. If you have two or more GM vehicles, consider the CD for $300

Can you tell me some more about the CD'S I have not heard of them. We have other Chevy products it would be nice if it worked on them to. :thumb:

The CD's is suppose to cover most of the GM vehicles between 1998-2002. For more details try www.helminc.com

On eBay there are some selling a pirated (I think) copy of GM's SI2000 April 2002 revised for around $45+. I'm not sure if they are the same as the SI2000 version that Helm's sells. The eBay ones do describe them to be for 98-2002 with a couple of 2003 models. But remember, at $45 this has a good probability to be pirated (illegal) software.

So if you want product support and be legal definitely buy the one from Helm's. Also I don't think this forum takes lightly recommending pirated software.

I have the $120 5 volume set for my 01 also. Beats the heck out of Haynes or Chilton. As stated above you get everything

The CD's would be nice in as much as you could print out the pages you need and not worry about getting grease all over everything. If you don't have a PC and printer in your garage then your significant other might get upset with you walking through the house covered in grime to get to the computer.

A group purchase might be the way to go. 3 guys put up a 100 bucks each and when the CD's come in, make "backup" copies to be kept off site (at each other's house) in case of disaster (that's usually permitted by the software vendor. What you do with the backup copies is left up to your own personal morals).

Or if that still sounds unethical to some folks out there then network your PC's together over the internet so you each can access the data.

Get the 5 vol. hard copies. You can flip pages on the fly. With a CD, you have to start your computer; do a search; print the page, etc. I KILLED so many dead trees.
