Ionic Voyager Step Bars...same As Gm Accessory 6" Ovals?

The Ionic Voyagers appear to be the exact same as the GM Accessory 6" Oval step bars for my 2009 Crew Cab 1500. There was one posting awhile back that also mentioned they looked the same. Anyone else had experiance with these? Right now, the only difference seems to be price. I figure somebody has to build these for GM, and maybe its Ionic?

I have the Ionic Voyagers on my 2011 crew. They do look very much like the OEM boards, but there are a few differences. The Ionic boards are ABS over an aluminum base. I may be wrong, but I thought the OEM boards were stainless. Also the Ionic's use the same mounting locations as the OEM, but the brackets are different. I believe the OEM have a black (plastic?) covering over the brackets.

I've had mine on since January of this year and they look like new (and in reality they should). To a casual observer looking at two trucks parked beside one another, it's doubtful one would notice any difference. The boards themselves look identical. I may change my opinion with time, but so far I am completely sold on the Ionic Voyager boards.

As for strength I saw

test on the Ford style boards. Again they seem to be pretty good stuff.

Vroten..thanks for the reply. Yours was the post that I had seen posted earlier. I happened to have an oil change appt this evening at the dealer and took a closer look at the GM steps on a new truck. I see what you are saying about the plastic covers that go over the mouting brackets. The plastic covers snap into two holes on each mounting bracket. The two holes in each mount bracket are just inboard of the step rail, I'd be curious to see if your mounting brackets had the holes in them. If so, I think that would confirm that Ionic makes the steps for GM. Would you mind taking a look at yours when you get a chance?

I live in the snow belt, and can see that the covers would help protect the mount brackets from road salt and sand, etc. If it turns out that your brackets have the holes in them, I'm wondering if the covers might be available separatly from Ionic.

Brackets have no holes where any cover could attach. Oh well :fume:
