Hey guys am a new guy to this site.... I just traded my 08 powerstroke for a 08 sierra 4.8 ( diesel was just deep in my wallet) I want to tune this truck with nelsons performance tune. my ? is am looking to run 93 octane and get their highest tune but how do these trannys hold up to more HP. whats the HP/TQ limit to the transmissions? i got a 4sp auto. dunno the trannys model. thanks guys

Congrats on the new truck. Nelson Performance does a nice job and you have nothing to worry about with the transmission tuning. Your not going to get enough to worry about it really. You will however like how it drives and performs afterwards.

Another great tuner and a site supporter is Blackbear performance. I've had his tune on two different trucks and like what he does. Not taking away from Nelson, just throwing another option out there for you.

Nelson performance ( NP ) said with the 93 octane tuning I should see 30-35hp & 30ish torque increase and also about 2-3 MPG gain too, is that right? what would blackbear offer me HP wise? I e-mailed him a while ago and he never got back to me. also what if i decide todo more than tuning what else is a nice Power increase i can do w/o adding a super/turbo charger?

Power wise, you'll get about the same power gains between tuners. I'm surprised BB didn't email you back, they're usually very good about it. If you want more power than the tune, then you have a few options the aren't that expensive. Cam, gears, and stall converter are good power adders. All would need some type of custom tuning too.

stall converter? does that mean torque converter?

Yes, by getting a little higher stall (torque converter), your truck will launch like a rocket, but not take away from the drive-ability.

okay, and I would have to get a tune to work w/ a new TC? and how good are these trannys holding up with it? i would have to worry about breaking a inputshaft would I?

You do need a custom tune to take advantage of it. I'd look at B&M personally but I'm no expert... there's lots of options.

okay well heres what Id like to do to my truck. I would like to do tuning from nelson performance, stall and cams (if i can) by doing those 3 things am I increasing my MPG also? I don't have a heavy foot? but if i cam it do I need to take off my cats or do anything else?

okay great, so I can throw just a cam with no other upgrades like springs or pushrods etc? also would that effect the life of the motor? cuz I notice when guys install cams it makes it idle loopy? and how much HP gain will i get putting a cam in?

There may be some upgrades for your tranny as well. If it a 4spd based of the the 4L60 than you can add a corvette servo and a billet 4th apply piston and it will make a big difference in shifts and also add some longevity to the the transmission.
