Cruise Control & Brake Pedal

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Lately I've been experiencing problems while driving on cruise. Sometimes cruise works, sometimes it doesn't. If I tap the brake or smack the side of the brake with my foot then it seems to work. However, it is getting worse. Now regularly I have to do that and sometime it still doesn't work.

There is a little slack in my brake pedal as when I put my foot under the brake and lift up it does move a bit. However if I lift it up and attempt to apply cruise it does not take into effect. Has anyone experienced such problems? What would be your suggestions? From what I read it is not the easiest task to replace a pedal? (if in fact that is what it is)

Thanks in advance,
vanspek

Sounds like a bad switch on your brake petal. Not sure if the cruise uses the same switch as the brake lights, but you should be able to crawl under the dash and see if there is 1 or 2 switches that the petal is hitting.

The cruise cancels on a brake petal push, so it could be a bad switch, or you just need to adjust it so the petal isn't bouncing into it.

my 07 silverado does the same thing. separate switches i think. on mine, brake lights are separate from cruise and trailer brake controller. lights work fine, cruise and brake controller act up.

I recently had this issue on my truck. Mine was the cruise wouldn't kick in sometimes but also my remote starter wouldn't shut my vehicle off.
So I crawled under my dash and noticed 1 white wire that is attached to a connector on the brake pedal hanging out. I pushed the wire back into the pin and squeezed on it with needle nose pliers to get it to stay in there.
No more problems for me

My free fix - priceless
Dealer fix - Who cares when you can do it yourself!

There was a same problem with mine '07 truck. I have repaired it as follows: removed the brake lamps switch, disassembled it and turned in contacts.
If you don't want repair brake switch, you can get the new switch. Part # 25981009

Amen brother. I had the same issue on the 08 to include brake lights turning off even when the pedal was pressed. New switch and done. I don't even think I needed a tool.
