What Is The Difference Of The Lbz And Lmm

Hello,

First off thanks to the creators of this site! TONS of great information!

I recently purchased a 2007 2500HD and would like to know what are the differences of the LBZ and LMM diesel engins. Also if someone could provide a build sheet for me, my VIN is 1GCHK23D47F103310.

I also have an issue with the speedometer not being correct. When I purchased the truck it had bald 285 75/r16 on it and the fist thing I did is purchase new tires for it. The tire shop just replaced with same size and off I go. Got a ticket and this is how I found out the speedometer was off. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it, or say they did. I was able to get out of first ticket and received another one just a few days ago. Took it back to the dealer and they said it was still off but that was as close as they could get it. Not sure if I will get out of second ticket or not yet but I will try.

Is there any way to fix the speedometer? I have sent Black Bear an email but he only tunes gas engins. He has refered me to Duramaxtunner.com, but have not heard from them yet and expect a response from them today or tomorrow. Why can the dealer not fix this but other "tuners" can? I am a little baffled about this.

Thanks a bunch!!

The reason your speedo if off is because most likely your truck came with 245's and your currently running 285's. The tires are near 3" bigger than stock and throwing the speedo off by more than 5 mph. Another words, if your speedo says your doing 60, your actually doing 65mph. The speedo is controlled by the PCM and was never corrected. Because it's not a "stock" tire size, GM won't fix it. Any hand held tuner or Custom tuner can fix it. Once fixed, it will correct the speedo and the shift points as well since they are off some too due to the larger tires.

Thanks for the fast reply! Yes I knew the different tire size was throwing off the Speedometer, but I just did not realize the tires and speedometer were not in sync when I purchased the truck. I really was not sure what the stock size was until now and I was wondering about the shift point too. Thanks for the great info! It just kind of ticks me off the dealer says oh yes we can fix it, takes my money, and then it really was not fixed. Based on my GPS it is 4 mph off, but it is kind of hard to watch the road, my GPS, and the speedometer all at the same time!

So I will wait to hear from the Duramaxtunner.com person and get a tune while I am at it! (Awesome justification to the wife to get a tune!!)

Anyone else on the other questions posted and a build sheet? I would love to get detailed info on this truck!

Thanks again!

The LMM has a DPF system on it, the LBZ does not. That is the main differences. It is possible, with certain aftermarket programmers and other equipment, to remove the DPF system from an LMM and essentially turn it back to an LBZ. I've done it for a friend of mine and while it does make a difference, I don't think it was worth the money (over $2000 after programmer and exhaust mods).

GM can fix it but because this truck was never tested and rated for 285 tires, they do not offer programming to install that tire on that vehicle. Read : legal issues. It is, what it is, period.

The dealer cannot program your truck for that size tire so they can never make the speedo 100% accurate. The closest they can get is a 265/70R17 which is still more than 1" smaller in diameter than what you're currently running.
