problems at the dealership, advice needed

here goes...

 

 

 

ive got an '06 k1500 extended cab just bought a few months back...well recently i've started having idle problems and the truck pulls to the right.

 

 

 

i replaced the plugs and cleaned the throttle body and maf, seafoamed through the brake booster and even tried new plug wires to no avail.

 

 

 

i got an alignment on the truck at a place and the pull to the right got worse and i finally admitted defeat and just brought it to the dealership.

 

 

 

so the dealership has had the truck since tuesday morning, now on thursday afternoon they call me saying everything is good...i just got back from test driving it and the idle or pull to the right is still the same, in fact the idle is worse now, when i go into drive the truck revs to 2k and hangs there. they told me they "fixed it with their 200 and something dollar intake and injector clean"

 

 

 

im sure the bill by now is almost $500 with their "diagnostics" charge and this intake clean crap...im about to lose my mind, i dont have a whole lot of money and i get out of the marine corps this weekend, i've got till tomorrow morning to move all of my stuff out of my barracks room which i cant because all the stuff i own was going into the back of my truck for the drive from arizona to new hampshire, im feeling out of options and just looking for advice. thanks -Norm

tough to diagnose from here, BUT, sounds like the first thing I would do is to get a scantool and check for any codes that are being thrown (ref idle problem)

 

THe idle problem could be as mundane as some sensor acting up somewhere.

 

AS far as the pulling to the right, is it all the time? under braking? ... ???

 

What kind of tires/wheels are u running? Are the tires new/old/??

i would hope a scantool would be their first step, pulls to the right all the time, all the suspension components and wheels& tires are stock, tires are new and all have been cross rotated

Depending on where you are you may need to hunt around for a place that specializes in alignments. Not Mr. Tire, Sears auto etc. There are places out there that can align just about anything and they make a living doing it, I'd start there. As for the idle, I wouldn't pay for anything until it is fixed to your satisfaction.

 

Since you don't have a lot of time you may need to suck this up until you get to New Hampshire.

they just called me, now they say the alignment was off to the right bye a whole inch, and i guess they are going to reflash the trucks computer because they were asking me if it had been previously tuned

Wow, I would give the alignment shop a piece of my mind for that one. I hope you get everything fixed and the dealer takes care of you.

and i did bring the print out from the dealership to the place that previously aligned my truck and they gave me my money back so it worked out.

 

still got this idle issue but im just going to deal with it till i drive home and fix it myself when i have more time.

I would just be concerned about driving it a long distance if is has a vacuum leak or anything else that has the potential of causing further harm to the engine.

 

Get yourself a can of WD40. With the engine idling, spray around the intake manifold. If there is no difference in the idle, you may be OK. If there is a difference in the idle (either stumbling or increasing). you have a vacuum leak at the manifold and driving a long distance has the potential of burning a valve.
