Front End Clunk in 2WD only

Hi Guys/Girls:

I have an 08 Sierra 5.3L 4 x 4 with electronic shift and 75,000 kms (45,000 miles):

Just last night I noticed an intermittent clunking in the front end. At first I thought it may be a chunk of ice, but when I switch to 4HI or AUTO, it disappears completely. I haven't done any fluid changes yet (tranny, fron or rear diff).

the noise starts at about 30km/h and speeds up with vehicle speed up to about 60km/h. Again, while moving if i switch to AUTO, it engages and the noise stops immediately.

Any thoughts?

If its a warranty issue, i will definitely take it in to the dealership, but if its not, I have a local mechanic that I will take it to.

thanks in advance.

you just need to get under there and start investigating worn parts... it could be the front drive shaft, front axle shafts, a wheel hub, anything, once it gets torque on it, it stops clunking. id start with the wheel hubs and work your way in
