K2500 4x4 inoperative

I have a 1995 K2500 4x4 with 5spd xmsn and 6.5L turbo Diesel. The 4x4 quit working while I was driving. When in 2wd, everything works fine. When in 4wd, there is VERY heavy resistance (it feels like I'm trying to pull a house) and the front end feels like it isn't turning.

What could be causing this and how do I narrow it down? Transfer case or front differential?

I was thinking about removing the front drive shaft and checking to see if it still does the same thing. If it does, then it is the transfer, if not, front axle.

Any other suggestions?

  Ha!! So GM Customer service, ive already been talking with someone on your email team and there is nothing they can do. So pretty consistent with everyone else’s experience- you can do NOTHING.. worthless emails. Sure glad i have 4 GM cars on our family cuz now its clear you dont care.. Sad and pathetic.
