I have a friend with an 88 2.8 that dies at idle on warm days, but runs fine when it is cool out. Any ideas what is causing this?

Yeah remove the air breather and take a flashlight and look closely at all the vacuum hose connections.  I have an 85' 2.8l and those hoses get old and brittle and need to be replaced.
