Low Oil Notification/Problem

I hope that I am putting this in the right spot.

Had an interesting event occur on Thursday. Driving to work and I look down and my dash says low oil add oil asap (or something like that). Within a min it went away and I didn't think more of it than a glitch. Then on the way home from work it happens to pop on again but stays on all the way home.

When I got home I checked my oil and.........DRY. I couldn't believe it. I just bought the truck about 2 months ago through the dealer. (2007 1500 sierra with 53k on it now) When I bought it the oil was changed. Soooo after seeing the dipstick show hardly anything...I added a quart. Level came up a little but not where I thought it should be. So I added another quart which got it to where it should be. I am not due for an oil change for another 1k. I have no clue how this happend. I dont have a leak to my knowledge (no spots on the driveway and no wet spots on the bottom of the truck or under the hood) I have not noticed any blueish smoke when walking by it running or looking out my rear window while I accelerate on a cold day.

Just concerned here. I am going to take it in for a full inspection in the morning. Any ideas?? Am I missing something in my worried mind? Bought it right at 50k with no issues that I could find other than it was a little dirty and needed new tires (which they took care of with new BFG ATs) Not looking to get flamed just looking to asses it.

well its good now I wouldn't think too much into it. Have it changed and afterwards make certain its at the right level and just check it every time you fill up and if its for certain using oil then you know you have a problem. Who knows it could have been a qt off and its maybe used a little since then and it just got to the point where the computer warned you.

you have the 5.3 right? Not that i have one but i have been reading about afm and 5.3's, especially that year, 2007 and it seems to me that its normal for those trucks to be using oil.

Some of the 5.3L with AFM have been using more oil than others. And.... GM thinks its "normal". So just keep an eye on it and see who the truck does.

Normal?????? How wonderful. Long term how could this affect me/the truck?? If its going to turn into a bigger problem I would rather get out of it sooner than later.

WOW some guys are reporting up to 2 quarts lost in 1500k. I'm not sure this is something I want to deal with. I might give it a go with an oil change using synthetic and replace the PCV valve. But thats it.....some guys have bought 500 tuners and custom tunes to go with them to turn the AFM off and it hasn't worked.

If I had afm I wouldnt change my oil past 3000 miles, I'd keep my truck on the "classic" intervals and forget about the oil life moniter.
