Truck bed coatings

I've used Duplicolor's truck bed coating in the past but not for it's intended application. The underside of the cowl was rotten on my 68 Fairlane from where leaves had clogged up the drains and I used a combination of fiberglass, laytex caulk and this stuff to repair it. Another time I used it and their textured roller to recreate the rough finish on the front valance on my 81 Fiat Brava.

This sounds like a stupid question but can this stuff be applied directly over a rusty truck bed or is this not a good idea?

The truck bed on my father's 76 Chevy is in bad shape. Mostly due to one of those plastic bed liners which do more harm than good. Unless they are removed after you get done hauling something like gravel.

I'm going to have to weld a new seam between the floor and sides because 3/4 of the weld have rusted away. The floor itself isn't that bad other than surface rust.

I'm going to dig the seam sealer goo out, scrape any rust away and weld in a new bead. Then apply something over it to seal it off. More of this seam sealer stuff? Defenetly not RTV since it has acid in it and will only promote rust.

Once I do that and grind all the paint off the floor that is flaking off, can this stuff be applied directly over rust? It seems like once it's on there, water won't penetrate it.

Just wondering if anyone has ever done what I'm talking about. I figure once this stuff is on there, it will be almost impossible to remove.

It seems as tho you would want to remove the rust so ot doesnt keep rusting under the paint
