Alright so i got a 02 silverado 1500 with the 5.3L in it. well i was a dumbass and went through a mud/WATER puddle alittle to fast and locked the engine up alright. so im lookin into just doin a engine swap instead of doin a rebuild i havent made my mind up yet i may do a rebuild but im lookin at all my options before i make my decision. pretty much im lookin in to gettin me a good salvaged 5.3L to replace it but i was also lookin into maybe upgradin to the LQ4 6.0L now if i do that what am i lookin at havin to do if i do uprgade to the 6.0. and whats the best route but the most cost effective way to go as well as with a good HP gain out of the options i have and if theres other options by all means let me know pretty much i gotta do somethin with my engine now or get another. as much info as possiple is greatly appreciated thank ya.

I replaced my 5.3 with another 5.3 last week. It was $2400 installed for a motor with 41k miles and a 12/12 warranty. The 6.0 was another $1600

damn that aint to bad im really thinkin that im gunna just stick with the 5.3 cause it aint really a bad engine. Like what did you do, idk how to put it, like how did you go about gettin it all done?

i meant in the sense that does the 6.0 match up to the 4L60? can they attach to each other or will it be a PITA? something else to check before you decide on changing the engine. im sure someone on here knows.

Im pretty sure they do match up but im not 100% on it thats why im really thinkin on just stickin with the 5.3 honestly tryin to do this the most cost effective way

It will bolt right up, you can also use your 5.3 intake on the 6.0. However, the 4L60E is a little undersized for the 6.0. They are usually mated to a 4L650E which has some more beefy parts. You can have your 4L60E rebuilt with stronger parts, or do a 4L65E swap.. but it's fairly involved.

I'm planning to swap to a 6.0 when my 5.3 gives up. They seem to be the same price or cheaper than the 5.3 at salvage yards and like I said, take your intake off, pull the old motor, install the 6.0, your 5.3 intake, and your done.

I am not much more than wannabe mechanic..I had a shop do it for me, the engine itself was $965 then $1400 in labor

call a local tuning shop to see if they can set up your truck to a 6.0l and what it will cost. i know of people going 4.8 to 5.3 or 6.0 and just took it to the dealership and paid like 400 bucks and got it reprogrammed for the new engine. the tranny will bolt up, manifolds, all the other stuff will bolt up, should run albeit bad until you get it tuned. i did a 4.8-4.8 swap in my driveway to replace a dead engine on my old 99, pretty straight forward, just unclip all the wires, remove intake manifold, unplug all cords and bunjee them to the sides, unbolt the tranny (make sure to get all bolts!!!!!) cut out some plywood to put over the radiator, remove the hood and itl come out nice and easy. like i said it was in and out in a weekend with us 2 with no experience prior on new vehicles, just old chevs. be sure to get a manual, and use a torque wrench during assembly

a 60 and a 65 are the same tranny, that number is a torque handling capability number gm uses...

the 4l80 is a different beast that typically lives behind the 6.0 l,

tranny class over lol

new pcm etc required for all this talk of a bigger engine /tranny $$$$$$$$$$

have fun anyways
