Metra AXXESS ASWC steering wheel control help

Forgive my newbie skills here, but will be adding an aftermarket Sony CD Receiver to my '05 Sierra 1500 in the next month or so........currently, it has the factory Delco CD unit with steering wheel controls....no onstar or bose. I've got the Metra GMRC-01 harness with the chime box, and am thinking about getting the ASWC steering wheel control module as well. Looks pretty straightforward, but a couple of questions. I'm pasting the install sheet from Metra here.

 

 

1) Connect the Black wire of the ASWC to ground. You may use the same grounding

point as the aftermarket radio.

2) Connect the Red wire of the ASWC to a 12 volt accessory wire, one that turns on and

off with the ignition key.

3) Connect the Pink wire of the ASWC to pin A1 of the vehicle. Below is a picture of

what the connector in the vehicle looks like:

 

My questions:

 

the aftermarket radio grounds through the harness, do I tap into that line or should I ground it somewhere else.....

 

What is the best place to connect the red wire to a 12V accessory wire?

 

And, I'm assuming that the A1 pin referred to here is on the GM factory wiring harness (that the Metra harness plugs into?)

 

Thanks for the help. Maybe the steering wheel controls aren't worth it, but I'm thinking it would be nice to retain them....
