05 Escalade EXT oil gauge

I've read quite a bit about it lately but I think this situation is a little different. My dad's truck's oil pressure gauge has said 0 for the past week and it hasn't melted down yet so it can't be a true reading. Oil temp is fine and engine sounds normal. Read that if you disconnect it, gauge should top out so I gave it a try, nothing... My dad ended up taking it to the dealership and they said it needed a new gauge which made sense. The catch is, they want to replace the whole instrument panel for $500! does the whole thing need to be swapped or can we just change the bad oil gauge? Is this something two fairly mechanically inclined guys can do in a driveway?
