Block heater on a timer

For those of you who use their block heater I would recommend buying an inexpensive wall timer to turn your block heater on. I picked one up at Walmart the other day for a little over $5. I have it set to come on 2.5 hours before I go to work. When I tried it this morning my glow plug light barely flashed and I was cranking away.

 

The reason I mention this is because I believe the block heater uses 1200 watts so if it is on all night then it is like running a hair dryer all night! A couple of hours is all it really takes and will the timer will probably pay for itself in about a month!

 

(The timer I bought is rated at 15 AMPS so it is up to the job)

Just picked one up for the tractor, it's nice to be able to just leave it plugged in and have it turn on on it's own when it needs to.

If you leave your truck outside, they also make one that is weather proof but it is around $15.

I do the same also! Think mine comes on for about 4 or 5 hours.
