K&N FIPK

Alright, here's the thing: K&N doesn't make a FIPK for my truck, 1994 s15 Jimmy 4x4 4.3L CPI, they say it is because either it wouldn't fit or it did not gain enough HP/TRQ. I have heard of people fabricating their own, either with the stock hose and a K&N cone, or cutting up the old box for better flow. My question is which is better? I am worried about the hot air coming off of the engine and affecting the cone, but it would be better flow. But with warm air you don't get as much oxygen as if it was cold. Any suggestions are welcome.

You might want to check with some other manufacturers that make aftermarket air intake kits that are comparable to the K&N setup.

I think AirMax is one. The other names escape me right now, but maybe some other folks can help out too.

I had thought about that, but I think first I am going to either "swiss cheese" it, where you drill some holes in the front of the box (the side that would be getting the air) then dropping in a K&N replacement filter. I am gonna wait on the filter until I can tell a difference. If I can't tell a difference I am going to take the box off and see if I can borrow a buddies K&N cone to see how it works. And if that works better then I will make a heat shield for the filter. If all else fails I might go hunting for generic K&N knock offs.
