coloradofarmboy Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I have a 1996 GMC Sierra k1500, info in my signature. The automatic transmission on it went out this week and Im gonna hafto replace it obviously. Im starting to weigh my options as to what I should put in. I enjoy offroading with it, and I have plans to get more power out of the truck in the future, and Im wondering what options I have as far as aftermarket transmissions? Are there any good companies out there? Could i go with a replacement stock trans? Thanks, TJ. P.S. Would it be a huge hassle to convert my truck to a manual transmission? I like manuals, and i have always wondered if it would be do-able. However I assume it would cost an arm and a leg.
tanked_darren Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Assuming you have a 4L60e http://www.finishlinetrans.com/transmissions/ That's just one site to give you a rough idea of what a performance transmission might cost you. There are lots out there, you could even get yours redone. Check around some local transmission shops. Sure you COULD do a manual. I don't know what's involved there I'm assuming cutting and mounts for sure.
