Interested in used '07 Suburban purchase opinions

I can grab a '07 Suburban 2500 with 150k miles, white, ex highway patrol for about $6500. It runs and drives great and has the 3.73 rear end. Rear bumper cover needs a repaint and it has some dings and scratches. Otherwise it is in "work truck" condition as it was a police car.

I can grab a '07 Suburban 1500 LTZ loaded with every option (nav, rear cam, etc.) and about 115k miles for about $10,000.

I drive about 35,000 miles a year and about 2/3 are in my VW Passat diesel and a third in my '01 Suburban 2500. I probably rack up about 2500 miles of pulling a 17' car trailer every year. Would it be stupid for me to buy the Suburban 2500 since I don't really pull a trailer that much? I'm wondering of the MPG tradeoff is not worth it for the 2500...

The 4L60E trans makes me cringe as I've had a couple fail over my lifetime when in terrible situations. Hence me having trucks with the 4L80E for a long time.

I would go with the 2500. It's a overall sturdier vehicle. As you already mentioned 4L80 trans very robust, but also better brakes, hydro boost brake system, beefier rear differential, I believe it can tow close to 9500-10,000 lbs. yes the creature comforts of the LTZ are nice, but not so much if the overall truck is not working well. I look at it this way, a1500 is a very nice big station wagon, a 2500 is a truck! Granted just my two cents, so thats what it's worth! Good luck.
