USB/iPhone music playback issues

When I plug my iPhone into my truck using the USB and try to play music, it shows that its connected and the song shows on the screen but the music will not play. You have to unplug and replug a few times to get it to play. Also, it may play a few songs then stop and show the song that was playing but no sound and no countdown. Any one seen this issue before or have a work around?
