6speed tranny vs. 4speed tranny

Hello, I drive a 2001 GMC Sierra it has a 4.8L with a 4speed tranny and I was wanting to put a 6speed tranny in it would it fit ? And I was also thinking about the 6speed tranny on stage 2 any suggestions ?

The 6l80 is much longer, requires a very complex TCM to operate it, I don't believe there is a stand alone module out yet to run it. Why do you want one? I have both and like the six, but the old 4l60e does everything nearly as well, not to mention at a third the cost.

Thing is that my 4l60e ran out and I was going to replace it but I want more speed so I was thinking rebuilding to a stage 2 or buying a speed and make into a stage 2 as well which it will make it go longer but than again the cost, it sure will be a bit cheaper with 4speed stage 2 than a 6speed stage 2

Rebuild your 4speed .

You would likely have around 6k into a six speed stage 2 with the electronics set up, or about 1k into a 4l60e If you do the rebuild.

Thats a tuff decision tho cause the 4speed I would actually rebuild it to a stage 2 were it would give more power but I also want the 6speed but rebuild 4speed it is !
