3.73 to 4.10 axle ratio.

Im want to swap out my 3.73 gears for 4.10 gears on a 02 2wd 1500.  I'm wondering how much work is involved to do the swap myself.  Will the gears just bolt in, or am i going to have a problem with the differential housing.  Are any special tools required to do the swap, measurement or alignment tools, etc.  How much time should I expect to spend on this.  My shop manual says nothing at all about the differentials.

I do have option code G80 eaton limited slip differential.

Thanks in Advance

Unless you are experienced with rear gear changes I would not recommend doing it yourself.  The ring and pinion MUST be set up EXACTLY or it will grenade.  There is measuring and the use of the proper spacers and shim like things to get it PERFECT.  Don't wanna discourage a do-it yourselfer... because I am one too, but there are two things I don't mess with... rears and transmissions... leave them to the experts!

My bro was offering to do my gears from 3.73 to 4.56 for the cost of parts and we would make it a weeklong project.  I thought what the #### let's do it.  Saves the $600 per axle that the local shops are asking.

After further investigation my bro messages me and tells me that $600 is prolly a good price cuz of all the work involved with the regearing.  Apparently it's very intricate work especially up front for 4x4s.  Unless you got the skillz to pay the billz, tread those waters carefully my friend.

I'm in school to get ASE's - I'm planning on doing the same re-gearing, but I'm not sure if I can wait til I know how to do it myself, AND have the necessary tools.  Have you gotten a dealer quote?
