Replacement for cracked passenger mirror? (2007 2500HD NBS power heate

My spouse cracked my passenger side mirror tonight trying to garage the truck :ughdance:. The black plastic housing appears undamaged, although it did open up slightly at the plastic joint. I think she applied sideways pressure which caused the mirror glass to crack. I have two questions:

  • I'm wondering how easy/difficult it is to just replace the glass? I'm guessing that is less expensive. Any idea what the part number is, and pointers to a procedure?
  • And if that does not work should I get GM or third party replacement part? I've read here that some third party mirrors vibrate more at speed, which would not work for me! Also any idea what the GM replacement part number is? Or recommendations for a high quality third party part?

This is for a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD NBS extended cab 8ft bed truck, and I need a passenger side DL8 (power heated manual-fold no signal) black mirror. Thanks.

I'd look at local shops. I know on my '01 that didn't have tow mirrors my dad got so tired of the stupid "objects may appear closer.." type mirror that he just had it replaced by a local shop. Must not have cost all that much he's pretty cheap like I am.

Find what? Who the heck is OPPO?

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought of asking local shops to just replace the glass (duh!). I had asked about replacing the entire assembly.

So I ordered last week, and just received tonight, the GM original passenger side replacement mirror glass/heater, part number 15886198. It was less than $80 shipped from GMPartsDirect (forum sponsor). The cracked mirror disengaged itself from the mounting plate last weekend by driving over some rough roads. All I had to do was disconnect the heating cables. I'll put the new glass in Friday or this weekend.

Hello Allan,

That is great that you were able you order the part you needed and you were able to resolve this issue yourself! I just wanted to stop by and let you know that if you ever need a part number, I am happy to assist. All you have to do is private message me your VIN and the part in question.

Thanks Jennifer. I'll keep that in mind, although the truck is very reliable.

Installation hint: The replacement mirror is only the flat glass/heater. The plastic round motor/mirror mount is not included. In my case that was undamaged and still attached to the broken mirror. It easily pushed off the broken mirror by pressing straight down in the same plane as the mirror (look at the slots). I reinstalled this onto the motor by pressing it directly on and ensuring it clipped into the center clip and four motor arms (used fingers behind the motor to stop it moving). Set the motor as if the mirror would be in its most downward position, so the top is almost out the housing, and even left to right. Reconnect the heater plugs - polarity is not important. Then push the mirror in against the top of the mount and push directly downwards to clip it in place. I used a trim tool to apply the downward pressure.

Hi Allan,

You are welcome! That is even better news that you feel that your vehicle is very reliable and you might not need my assistance in the future. I was just throwing it out there that GM Customer Care is here!
