Manual Transmission

Does anybody know what manual transmission was in the 1999 GMC Sonoma with a 4.3. Iam going to swap the auto out for the 5 speed but i cant even find the five speed i need.

If I remember right, it's the same used as the 1/2 full size trucks.  New Venture 3500.  Pretty sure...if it's the 4.3L.  The 4 banger probably uses an Izusu tranny.

I'm not sure where you are located. I work at Manual Transmissions of Muncie (formerly New Venture Gear). You can call 765-281-2200 and ask to speak with someone in sales. We get units returned for various reasons which are then disassembled, quality checked and then reassembled and tested. I don't know what happens to them afterward but it may be a cheaper way to get a newer unit.

 

For the 4.3, I'd stay with the 3500. The 1500 would probably fit but that has TINY parts inside for low (4-Cyl) torque applications.

They list both NV1500 and NV3500.

 

Check your service parts ID list (a sticker that looks like in index card...probably on the door).  If it lists RPO's MG5 or M50 it's a 3500.
