replacing 2008 fuel tank with larger 36 gallon from 2011?

Hey everyone,

I can't stand the 26 gallon tank on my 08 6.0. I travel quite a bit in the mountains and not being able to skip a fill up at every town is a pain.

I have looked at Titan tanks but at $2000 Cdn it just doesn't make sense on a 08.

I have googled it and haven't seen anywhere that someone has swapped in the 36 gallon tank from a 2011 to a pre 2011 truck. I have about 160,000 k (100,000 miles) on the truck so its not a bad time to do a fuel pump anyways so I might be dropping the tank in the spring regardless. Looking at the pictures on gmpartsdirect the tanks look the same so I am not sure where the extra 10 gallons comes from, but I am sure it can't be just a simple swap.

The local wreckers has a few of these trucks and wants $200 for the tanks. I would have to verify the pump from the 08 works on the 11 tank both in fit as well as making sure the tank isn't deeper to pick up the fuel.

Anyone have any insight on doing such a thing?

Gm changed the frame on the 2011 so I'm sure it won't fit. I have a 2010 with the same 26 gal tank and checked into it. I was disappointed when I found out I could have got 36 gal tank if I would have waited for the 2011 model.

The transfer product is nice, a little cheaper than the titan but they don't make it for the gas trucks.

I currently take 3 jerry cans of fuel for those just in case moments. Running in the mountains with a sled deck doesn't leave any room for a small slip tank under the deck as well then in the summer time it ties up too much box space.

I may just have to wait until the weather is better and go grab one of the tanks from the wrecker and compare it. I am at the point where I am actually looking at replacing the truck just to get a larger tank as $2000 for a tank on a truck worth $18000 doesn't make sense.

were bigger tanks not available on the 2007 - 2010 trucks. If they were, I'd be interested in doing this as well
