I ordered a set of factory manuals for my truck whan i bought it, they did not have them in stock (of course) so i recived a "we owe" slip and had $150 added to the price of my truck they said they would be in in a few days "we will call you"

waited........

waited.......

called the dealership "they have not been printed yet"

waited................

waited..........................................................................

..........

................................................................................

........

got pissed off, called "they have not been printed yet"

waited..........................................................................

....

then i found someone quoteing the manual on the diesel page

went to helms and saw they were avail direct for $120 (I guess the dealer has to make money on everything)

so i went down to the dealer and asked about my manual, got a diffrent guy this time, I showed them the printed page from helms that it had been printed, so the guy calls helms, helms said they were shiped a few days after i irdered them and sighned for by juess who, the dumb butt that has been telling me thay have not been printed yet!!!! :angry;  so they look and look and eventually find them in the service managers office ??? (they are already quite worn an thumbed through)then the guy tries to tell me that they are $150 a book not a set  :angry: I pull out the helms page again $120 for the whole set give them the we owe you slip "they are already paid for"

after 2 months I finally have some reading material :thumbs:

I love the internet I can get the info I need from people arround the country (sometimes arround the world) and not get taken for a ride because i do not know any better

thank you :D

Congrats on finally getting them.  Are they really helpfull?  I'm thinking about getting a set of the manuals, the fact that there are a few books make's me think they are much more complete than my hayne's manual that I have.  Hmmm, but the question is spend the 120 on the manual for my truck or 300 for the cd rom that covers pretty much all of gm's vehicles from 1998-2001.  I may have to do that when I get the $$$

But, you shouldn't have told everyone you got those now everyone is going to be hitting you up w/ technical questions.

just got them this afternoon, so i have not had a good chance to look all the way through, (would take months to read the whole thing)

i do not mind lloking up info for anyone, this forum and others have helped me out a lot and I do not mind giving back

not shure how many pages as they are divided in to subsections but it is printed on that thin "bible" type paper so there have to be a LOT of pages

I had a factory manual that came with my 1981 nissan 280ZX I bought it from the OG owner it was the same thickness as both the chiltons and hanes but the completeness and accuracy of info was amazing so far this seams to be the case with this manual

I would definetaly recomend this for anyone whp would like to tinker

I think that I may get the cd rom evenutally.  I like the fact that I can print out what I need so I don't have to worry about mussing the book up.  Plus it covers more vehicles which is great for a guy like me who likes to rob ideas from the different GM vehicles.  Also, I'd like to open a custom shop some day so it would come in handy.

BTW it does not include transmition rebuild info u have to get a seperate manual for this

if u have an allison it is sold direct from allison for a much more reasonable price that is the next perchace

now that might be handy, ls1 parts and tuning on your 5.3? :thumbs:

yea if u plan on working on more than your truck than it is defineatly a good investment to get the set on cd

I have that same set.  5 phone books to thumb through, HUGE index of all the different types of fullsize pickups, 1500, 2500, 3500, tahoe/yukon, suburban/yukonXL.  Its nice info to have, but confusing if you are looking for something quick.  I get easily sidetracked when reading the books. :thumbs:  Plus, I don't have a book shelf for them.  If I did, I'd still have a problem when I pulled one down, they'd all come down! ??? I bet someone with more car/truck knowledge would enjoy the books more (lots of scan tool stuff).  I really enjoy the "Description and Operation."  It's a brief overview of how each system works.  It's a shame I don't have a digital camera, I'd photo pages for ya!   :D

Are part numbers included in those manuals?  I kind of figured they are not, but was just wondering.  I've been wanting to get a set myself, but still havn't.

Sorry, no part numbers that I remember stumbling across.  There are GM tool part numbers!  :thumbs:  Scanning Tool Data lists, circuit diagrams, an index with 52 pages!  Whew!

Glad you finally got them. If the shop had been using them I think I would have insisted on a new set. It would have been a little longer wait, but I would have been happier in the long run.

I dont think the shop was useing them as there are no greasy fingerprints I think the service manager was reading them the corners are a little beat ect I think he plobably has a silverado I know the owner has one

no I waited to long and have wanted these will not send them back for soem bent edjes

there are a few part #'s mostly the stuf that is in the owners manual filters fluids ect dont know where to get an ilistrated parts catalog but u reealy dont need one the dealer will do it for u for free

there is a complete lidt of rpo codes

8.1L=L18

duramax=Lb7

5.3=Lm7

6.0=lq4

4.8=Lr4

4.3=L35 (did not know u could get a 6 cylender ??? )

there are seven pages of these, a break down of the vin

and about 20 pages of warnings (realy, battery acid and asbestos are bad for me? j/k)

I have looked at about the first 1/8 of the first book a lot about vibration, ballincing and out of round on wheels tires driveshaft and something cool there is a tool that can dynamicly ballance your whole rotaing assembly (rotors bearings shafts) it bolts to the car and tells u where to put weights :thumbs:

then there was the ac section more warnings, removal install on every vehickle/engine leak and diagnostic

here is what i like a overall scematic  of the AC elc. then a diagram of where all the plugs are, and then a diagram of every plug with pin-outs very handy looking :D

I was just looking for service manuals with the wiring schematics and locations so that I can do some tinkering with my truck. Thanks for the info guys. I just ordered my set from Helms.
