The reverse lights come on only half way out of park and shut off again when your in reverse. I have heard there is an adjustment on the tranny itself but wanted to see what you all thought on the subject. Thanks!!

Adjustment of the shift linkage on the 700r4 transmission.

1. Set parking brake

2. Follow the steering column to the engine compartment and find where the shift linkage is attached to the column. (On right side of column when facing the truck) Loosen the bolt holding the linkage to the column.

3. Put the gear selector lever in the N gate

4. Move the transmission shift lever (follow shift linkage to the frame rail and then over to the drivers side of the transmission) to its forward postion, and then back two detents.

5. Hold the shift linkage rod in position and tighten down the bolt you loosened earlier.

6. Check the adjustment by ensuring that the gear selector goes into all positions and that the engine starts in only P and N.

And that is all there is to it. Hope that helps.

Kansas: I tried your adjustment and it seemed to put the linkage from the tranny right back in the same position it was, where it connects to the steering column. So I assume that means that the tranny is set up correctly? I noticed while I had the shift lever inside the truck disconnected from the tranny that the reverse lights still came on half way out of park and still turn off again before it is totally in reverse. So is there an adjustment in the cab possibly under the dash? It just seemed by that behavior that it isn't a problem with the transmission?! Any other ideas I can try would be greatly appreciated!
