Need mechanical backup...

Got an issue I need some input on from any and all of you who may have more mechanical experience than me.

 

Something wierd is going on with my engine. I noticed before I dropped a lower temp thermostadt in that my temp was hovering too close to 200 all the time. I dropped in a 160 and noticed that my radiator hose going into the top of the intake manifold always had pressure on it.

 

Since this is almost always a sign of a sticking thermostadt, I pulled it out, but my block still has pressure on it though when I cut off the engine after running it only a minute and a half. (In other words, my radiator hose going into the manifold is ALWAYS tight.)

 

Crazy thing is, it never actually overheats...it gets close, but stays under 200, but I am still concerned about that pressure that should not be there.

 

Any of you guys (or girls) have any ideas on this one...once again, I am clueless.

Oh I almost forgot...engine specs...5.7 litre V8, TBI injection on a 93 GMC truck.

 

I bought this truck from a previous owner who's Dad owns an insurance company which he acquired it through. What I am saying is that I do not know if someone may have put a different set of heads on it or something...the water pump was pulled from a junkyard it looks like-but I do not have the money to start replacing stuff if it's not needed.

The gages in your truck aren't perfect.  I'm guessing that the stock thermostat is probably supposed to be in the 190* range.

 

Are you saying that you are still getting temps near 200* with the 165 thermostat?

No, what I am saying is that the top radiator hose always seems to have WAY too much pressure on it...even with the thermostat out. That isn't normal is it?

You will always have pressure on the hoses even if there is no thermostat. If you look at the cap it should say 14-16 lb. Thats how much pressure it has. If there is too much pressure it will blow water into the overflow.
