Cat Clogged!!!

Recommended Posts

Posted

My catalytic converter recently clogged. it is one big piece to buy a new one. I was wondering if anyone had by passed theirs of the same type as mine. what all they went to do it and also if anyone had bought an aftermarket converter. I have a flowmaster muffler on it right now and was wondering how much of a difference taking the cat off would make to sound.

suggestions are appreciated

Take that clogged thing off. Cut if off and replace with a piece of pipe your year motor likes breathing free so let it. It will definately talk, be louder than it is now and you will feel the power difference. If you have E Check then cut the muffler off and beat the honey comb out of it or take a hole saw and go to down then weld the empty converter into place run a little alcohol in your truck and it should pass emissions. I would definately take the cat off though...That's just me I could be wrong -Tyler

Actually, the 88+ with the pellet-type converters, do not 'clog up' there is nothing in there to become clogged. Mine wasn't 'clogged', but it was very restrictive.
