k1500 is engaging in reverse but one I start backing up sometimes it will pop out of reverse hard and you can hear a loud grinding/ whining noise till I put it back into park right away to stop it, it seems to pop out of reverse more often when I give it throttle right from park or reversing up a slight hill. All forward gears work and shifts good, just having issue in reverse. Just had the shifting cable replaced and that didn't fix it and then thought it was in the rear end cause the gears where all chewed up in there from the driveline falling out long time ago, but put a new rear end in and u joints and still didn't fix it. Hoping it doesn't need a tranny, tranny oil looks good and no burnt smell, any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Truck is fixed. It ended up being a broken snap ring on the output driveshaft, which is where the driveline goes to the transfer case. It was broken in two and I guess it's happened to a lot of people, with it broken it was letting the gear I believe push in more when it shouldn't in reverse and why it was grinding and everything. Put a new one on for $8 and super easy, problem fixed!Hope this may help someone else!
