89 sierra differential

I have an 89 sierra. Ring and pinion no good. Chipped a tooth on the ring and whom ever put it together before, left out one of the spider gears to top it off. I will be swapping out my whole diff, as is cheaper. I have the 3.08 ratio axle. Can I go higher? If so can I use a different year rear end? For instance a 92??

you can put what ever gears you want in there as long as they fit that case. it all depends on what your looking for mpg's , stand a wheelie , pull the house down

the opitons are limitless and when selecting a gear you should factor in a few things HP, trans gears, what you want a quick start or a faster topend , and tire size

i have 4:10 gearing both front and rear, and eaton limited slip diffs. everything cody hall said is true, im just saying if u want the pull the house down gearing get 4:10s. i believe 3:73s came in most half tons.
