Silverado SS vs. SVT Lightning

Anyone read this feature in this month's Truckin?

They picked the Lightning as the "Top Dog". This is not a fair fight! :withstupid:

How can you farily compare these 2 trucks? The Silverado SS is an extra cab truck w/a naturally aspirated engine. The Lightning is a single cab truck w/a supercharged engine.

If Chevrolet ever has the guts to produce the single cab SS w/a supercharger.............watch out Ford!

Here are some stats from the feature:

Silverado SS

engine........... 6.0L Vortec SFI V-8

horsepower... 345 @ 5,200 rpm

torque........... 380 @ 4,000 rpm

curb weight... 4,919 lbs

0-60.............. 7.48 sec

1/4 mile......... 16.06 @ 86.23 mph

SVT F-150 Lightning

engine........... 5.4L SOHC supercharged V-8

horsepower... 380 @ 4,750 rpm

torque........... 450 @ 3,250 rpm

curb weight... 4.670 lbs

0-60.............. 6.37 sec

1/4 mile......... 14.68 @ 98.37 mph

That 16.06 is a horrible time in the 1/4 mile.. I frequent the SilveradoSS.com forum and those guys are getting low 15's high 14's and one has a supercharger on his getting 13.90's

 Why does'nt chevy get off it's ass and smoke the lighting. I dislike the lighting. Chevy needs to stop toying and bring back the bad ass toys of the past, in the form of high performance in a newer body. I still bet the SS can give the lighting a good run for its money without the charger, but your right grey, when it does get the charger watch out lighting because your spark won't be looking that big after the dust blows you out :withstupid:

If you had a supercharged SS... red light to redlight it would be a close race with the lightning because it would take a bit to hook up and with the AWD the SS hooks up. If they are running slicks... thats a different story :withstupid:

Silverado SS

0-60.............. 7.48 sec

1/4 mile......... 16.06 @ 86.23 mph

The July/August Truck Trend just tested a Silverado SS and got a 0-60 of 6.62s and a 1/4 mile time of [email protected]. The F150 Harley 5.4L got a 5.96s 0 to 60 in the article.

Truck Trend also tested a regular old 5.3L ext cab 4wd a year or two ago and got a 7.79s 0 to 60! That 7.48s time in this month's Truckin' sounds real slow. Maybe they need to hire some evaluators who know how to drive?? :withstupid:

That's because chevy wanted a truck that would go fast in the summer and not have to be put away for the winter snow and ice. Also they wanted something that could tow a lot more than a toy truck too.

Anybody want to buy a 2002 Silverado so I can get me a new Chevy SS. :puke: MAN I LOVE THE SS! :lurk: Chevy finally got off of its dumbarse and put a front end under thier SS.

I read the Article also, Definately not a apples to apples comparison. Something else, Doesn't the Lightning have plastic bedsides on it? :withstupid:

I think it is amazing that GM can build the SS for less than 300 pounds more than the Lightning.

Also amazing that the Silv SS weighs 500 to 600 lbs more than the Dodge Hemi or F150 Harley yet brakes 60mph to zerp mph 13ft and 10ft quicker.

This is what really ticks me off about GM. They stop production of one of the only vehicles that showed Ford their tail (the F-body platform) and now they won't even make a truck to compete with the lightning (in stock form). Looks are good but put more performance.........

The Lightning has some pretty impressive stats for a F*rd.

Something doesn't seem right with the 16's on the SS. They need to get a good old boy behind the wheel and see what she can do. :D

Keep in mind, Furd had to supercharge their engine to be able to compete with a heavier extended cab non-Supercharged Chevy!

Put a Supercharger on this new SS and the FURD will be blown off of the road! :D
