Looking at ordering a 2017 3500 hd dualley but I have a 5th that has given some clearance problems on my current truck. Does anyone know the bedrail height (ground to top of tailgate) on the new trucks. I have looked every where and can't seem to find the information. Thanks in advance for feedback.

My 2016 Dually High Country 4X4 is a tall truck with the top of the bedrail at 59" from the ground. i use this truck for a big slide in camper so the height is fine. I know if I still had my Montana Fifth wheel I would have to do what I did on my 08 Silverado Dually 4x4 and that was take it to a suspension shop and have them lower the rear end by changing out the leaf spring brackets. This put my overloads touching the stops but gave me enough clearance to tow my 33ft Montana level. Otherwise the Fiver would be nose high and backing on unlevel ground your Fiver with damage the box of your truck when you are backing up turning sharp. You did not say if you are getting a 4x4 but according to the specs on my 2016 brochure, the 4x2s are almost as high in the 3500 series. Good luck with your truck. This is my second Dually and I will never go back to SRW. I towed the 33 ft Montana with two different Ford Super Duty SRW F350s. No comparison. True story, my last trip towing my Fiver from Canada to Arizona, I was just north of Sacramento and we were getting ready to pull into the next rest area on I 5 . As I pulled into a spot a camera crew and beautiful lady reporter walked up to driver window and I was confused. I lowered the window and the nice lady said they were doing a story on the windstorm and wanted to know what it was like pulling a trailer. I said I did not realize how windy it was and she moved on and that story never made the news.

When I got out of the truck it was very windy but a Dually is rock solid where a SRW will wonder. My new truck with a 10 ft double slide Arctic Fox camper , over 5000 pounds drives like a big Cadillac. I love this truck.

Rv duck- thank you for the response. I have a 2016 2500 high country 4 x 4. The bed rail is at 59 inches and you hit the nail on the head with the challenges. I have already damaged the bed of my truck and bottom of my fifth wheel. I already raised my 5th wheel a little by swamping out the suspension. I heard that the drws sit a little lower because the tires are 18 instead of 20s. Sounds like I was misinformed. I wonder if the suspension changes you mentioned would void the warranty on a new truck.

When a dealer does modifications, the warranty stays intact. There is a GMC dealership in my town that puts lift kits on brand new trucks. Maybe your dealer will lower your new truck as a condition of sale. Having said that, I had my 08 lowered by an suspension shop and never even thought it could affect warranty, but you would be wise to check it out.

RVDUCK, How is the fuel economy with your truck? I am getting up to 21mpg freeway and around 17 city. Curious if I go to a DRW if fuel economy will drop dramatically. Thanks,
