2003 GMC 1500 hard starting

Hey guys I have a 2003 GMC 1500 with the 5.3 and its been hard starting lately and I don't know why I replaced the fuel pressure regulator the fuel filter and pump have been replaced I've noticed it smells like gas after it finally starts kind of like its getting to much gas...but not sure its really starting to bother me and help would be amazing!

What is the fuel pressure readings before you attempt to start, while starting and while it is running?

 

You could try turning the key on for about 5 seconds WITHOUT trying to start it. Then turn key off and then try to start it. That will prime the lines IF you have a problem with the check valve letting pressure bleed off.

I'm not sure I don't have a scanner...I will give the key trick a try and see what comes of it. Thank you for your reply!

You don't need a scan tool to check fuel pressure, you use a fuel pressure gauge that hooks to the fuel rail. I have one similar to this:
