2006 silverado 5.3 oil pressure and knocking

2006 silverado 5.3 cold start takes a second for oil pressure too come up at idel 38 psi does fine at higher rpms when warm but if it idels for awhile it starts too a tapping knocking noise give a little gas and it stops. I was told the filter under the oil pressure sensor was dirty but I was also told that it didn't have one that they started putting them in in 2007 I really don't wanna pull the sensor if it don't have a filter under it but the knock drives me nuts. Any insight would help thanks

Does not have a screen for the oil pressure sensor. Sounds like a shot oil pump.

Thanks that's what I was thinking also but wasn't sure

the oil pump is a 2 piece set up there is an O ring that after a while gives up and allows oil to " blow by " and not make it to the top of the engine. Oil pumps usually either work or dont if they are shot thats been my experience

Thank you I have heard the o ring is a common problem would explain the tapping at idel because the pump is leaking back thru o ring but at higher rpms it's supplying enough oil?
