08 GMC Sierra, Dash goes on and off constantly

2008 Sierra Cluster, keeps power cycling on and off. the longest it stayed on so far was about 20 seconds.

any ideas how this can be fixed ?

Could be numerous things and I mean at least 4 things, all of which require time and diagnostic skill with a multimeter. The best way for us to begin to help, you need to find a way to see if any codes are stored in the IPC, or the instrument cluster. We need to know if it's losing communication or if any other modules are losing communication with the IPC. You could try to just replace the cluster and see if it works, but that's a costly move.

do i need tool like tech2gm to diagnose this ? or scan tool like autel can do ?

 

even hooked up on the bench, outside of vehicle, to a 12v power supply same problem happens

Okay, if it does it outside the vehicle, replace the IPC

They were prone to issues when they were new. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just not the best made clusters either
