towing with 8.1

with my 1500 i towed with tow/haul on and in 3rd gear instead of overdrive, and i never used cruise control unless i was on very level highyway stretch. my camper weighs 7000lbs all loaded up.

 

1. with the 8.1 is it best to tow in od with tow/haul on?

2. can i use cruise regardless of grade?

3. also when towing does anyone go to premium gas?

If it downshifts a lot then use tow/haul. When in tow/haul mode it will not go into overdrive unless it senses a light enough load. Tow/haul is good. My guess is that is a weight the truck will like to be in tow/haul mode.

Your 8.1 won't even notice that light load back there. Put it in tow haul, pop on the cruise control, and your speedometer needle will look like it's painted in place. There is zero advantage to running higher than recommended octane gas, unless it makes you feel good to pump more money out the tailpipe.

I tow 12,000 with my 8.1 with the tow/haul and cruise with no problem.
