G-tech readings

I have a question that I hope someone can supply some input on. I just recently did a couple of runs with my G-tech hooked up. The numbers I got do not seem to make sense. My averages were:

0-60 8.4 secs - This seems to be pretty close though I was hoping for better.

1/4 [email protected] - Here is where I have my problem. From what I have read from other instrumented tests the time of my run does not seem to correlate very well with my speed. Most of the testing I have seen where the speed is in this range the time is closer to 15 secs, whereas a mid 16 sec run usually gives you a high 70's to low 80's speed.

I am running an 03 Tahoe with the 5.3, 3.73, 4x4. Mods include AiRaid, JBA headers, Edelbrock catback, Granatelli MAF and 20 inch wheels and tires.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

I don't know how a G-Tech records/measures the speed. Does it read off the Vehicle Speed Sensor? If it does have you recalibrated for your new tires and wheels?

Otherwise I can't answer your question...

G-Tech uses an accelorometer to measure acceration and it is very sensitive. If it is not mounted perfectly level the readings will be off. The bigest problem is finding a perfectly flat road to run on. Any hill, dip or slight incline will make the readings bogus. I used a G-Tech a few years ago and it was a neat toy, but when I used it at the drag strip to compare times and it was nowhere near close. I was 200 feet past the trap when it said the 1/4 was done and always gave a 10% to 15% higher speed than I accually had. G-Tech is a toy and a easy way to see if a mod made any improvement. To test for improvement you need to do a base line run on the most level road you can find. Then after you do a mod make a run on the same road and compare readings. Never use a G-Tech reading to make a bet.
