Do any of you guys have DirecTV HD . If so what brand reciever are you using. I'm looking into upgrading my satellite, and was curious how brands other than RCA were.

thanks

I have Dish Network. Been with them for 7 years. HDTV channels are few right now and I am going to wait it out a little longer. I wan t to make sure My TV/Reciever combination will work flawlessy. I have been burnt too may times on premature technology.

Well I just want the HD for Discover HD and ESPN HD....all the networks down here are already running HD telecasts, and the FCC has mandated that they all have to be HD by I think like 05 or 07....but my sister has it, and sports are phenominal with it...makes the whole thing worth while to watch a hockey game or football game....especially when the price of 4 good seats at a game will pay for the reciever. The nosebleeds for the dolphins/jets game down here I was trying to get are going for about 150, and 2nd tier seats at the pathers go for about 70-100 a seat, so I think I'll just upgrade my TV.....

My brother installs Directv and Dishnet, he says the Hughes Silver and Hughes Gold series have less problems and they have more features than the RCA or Phillips models. I have a Hughes Silver and an RCA, and I like the Hughes better because of the options on it.

I have the Mitsubishi SR-HD500. Which sure looks like it was made by Hughes. It's advantage over the RCA is that you don't have to switch antennas to go between OTA tv and satellite. They're all on one guide. And it seems like the tuner is a tiny bit faster too.

Also keep in mind that your HD receiver should be able to decode OTA (over the air) HD signals from an antenna. You may have to buy an adapter called an 8VSB (I think). You will also need a cheap $30 '4 bay BowTie' antenna that can go into your attic. Then go to www.antennaweb.org put in your home address and it will tell you where to point it.

I live 20 mins NE of Baltimore and get 17 OTA HD stations from Baltimore and DC with more coming.

 I went with a Mitusbishi for my TV just because I have a Mitusbishi and I like there quality. The down side is you pay a crap load per month for only a few chanels. As the local channels start to drive it you will see more and more cable chanels catch on. However if you don't have the OTA you won't get your locals in HD.......
