09 Silverado crew cab 5.3 vortec 4X4

5.3 motor has 220,000 miles runs good, no codes, uses a little oil. Blows white smoke out of exhaust extremely bad. Any help would be appreciated.

Truck is burning coolant. When coolant burns it emits a white smoke and smells sweet. Does it smell sweet? My guess would be head gasket

No it doesn't smell sweet or like oil or fuel. No smoking until I ran into gas station and started truck.

Yes, coolant level is good, had over a half a tank of gas. Oil is showing no signs of coolant in crankcase.

What kind of fuel did u put it in? Also is the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe itself or somewhere else? Fuel may be contaminated maybe...

I standard mid grade fuel . Comes straight out of exhaust pipe.

If the truck was not smoking before you fueled up and now after it is then it must be something with fuel

If you’re certain it changed to smoking with the fill up, then you need to isolate the fuel and figure out what is wrong with it. 

 

I would still;

think about and notechanges in performance, mpg, water temp. Engine smoothness at idle and under load 

check and mark fluid level in radiator overflow when cold.

pull dipstick, smell the oil. Check for any sign of whipping or consumption

pull the plugs, check for uniformity of appearance.

wet rag the headers at each cyl8nder to make sure they are all the same.in regards to temp. With an exhaust manifold it’s not as easy...

sniff the tail pipe (ha) - I don’t know for sure what the new GM fluid smells like hot. I think it might not be sweet, like the old days. But, I’m not sure. Also, finger it for oiliness.

as for the fuel, draw a little out and look, smell and burn a bit.

You’ll like this one- look at the air cleaner make sure it’s intact. A buddy had a ratoncito eat through the element of his CAI and get lodged against his throttle body to rot.

 

This is just off the top of my head. I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I do know that you can destroy an engine quite easily from these type problems pretty quickly.

Thanks for the info,  cause I don't believe it's fuel. Cause I had more than 1/2 a tank of gas. Then it started doing this right at startup.
