siume99 Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 I took my truck into the dealership yesterday evening to check the parking brake. They noticed that the "Y" adjuster was already tightened all the way. By that time, I needed my truck for the next day (today)....and no rental. So I took it back tonight. Enterprise rental gave me the choice of a Ford Escort, or a Saturn. Well I picked the Saturn (I at leasted wanted to stay GM). Guess what. It was nearly out of gas, and so was the Escort. They wound up getting me a Toyota Corolla...........BASE MODEL!!!!! Can you get any further from a Tahoe LT? I only drove the POS 2 miles so far. 50 miles round trip to work tomorrow and not another mile for it either. I never knew how well I had it with my truck! *EARLY WARNING* no offense to those offended by my following remarks. There is a good reason for people to purchase these cars. (can someone tell me.....other than they are cheap $$$?) There is no tilt steering. The steering wheel gets hit by my knees which are bent up because the seat is all the way back and needs another 5 inches! Oh yeah....don't let me forget the accelerator. It has decent get up and go, but my size 13's have about 1/4 inch of leeway before I'm on the brake. The mirrors, you think they have a little knob on the inside to do the manual adjustment. NO! I have to push on the mirror. Did I mention that I can easily palm the tires (width wise)? I'd rather have motorcycle tires!!! Thanks for listening to my venting. I'm going to ask the dealer if it's possible for the rental car place to only handle GM cars/TRUCKS.
Shaners Posted April 9, 2002 Posted April 9, 2002 I feel for you man!!! I was there too, when I had the Transfer case in my truck replaced. I drove an F150 for 2 weeks, and then when the truck had to go in later for a few other related problems, I drove a base model Cavalier... I hope you get your truck back soon.
siume99 Posted April 10, 2002 Author Posted April 10, 2002 Thanks Shaners Gee....reading back on that, I really sound stupid. I will have my truck back tomorrow evening. It's not the dealership's problem, they are always great with me. My salesperson/truck manager and the service people all know me by my first AND last name. (It's not because I give them a hard time either!) I feel very vulnerable driving such a small car. I honestly didn't notice how "powerful and protected" I felt driving a larger vehicle.
chainsaw4130 Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 I recently went on a business trip and had a Ford Escort for two days. I did not feel safe driving this tiny little car on the highway.
siume99 Posted April 10, 2002 Author Posted April 10, 2002 Well, half of my driving time is over...just another 25 miles. I forgot to mention, it doesn't have cruise control. I can keep my speed constant in my truck, but it is a challenge in such a cramped car with my legs crunched up. I found out two things that are cool about the car. 1. While upright, I can put my fingers on the passenger window. (It's a piece of cake to get papers or other things that slide off the seat.) 2. I can actually see OVER the rear view mirror.
