Radar Detector trick

I went to Radio Shack and bought a power plug to fit the unit, and also bought a cigarrette lighter plug w/ a built in rocker switch. I placed the unit up above my R/V mirror close to the headliner, and ran the power wire from the new plug across the windshield tucked under the headliner. I then ran it down inside the plastic trim along the side of the A pillar, and then into the fuse area. Run it under the dash over by the cig. lighter area, and hooked it up to the new plug/switch. Now I can turn it on at the flick of a switch, don't have to reach, and I can keep my volume setting. If I knew how to insert a pic, I would. It worked out really slick! Eric :D

cool

i did something similar

my detector holds the settings no matter what even the volume

it also has auto off and on upon entry

the overhead console contains a constant hot going to the 2 puhs on-off

courtesy lights

i just spiced on to it and tucked the wire under the edge of of the console

and the headliner( total of 8 inches of wire needed )

looks great and almost factory

I did the same thing Todd did. Mine will turn it's self off after 10-15 minutes and turn on when I open the door. I put the remote for my V1 in the spot above the passenger airbag switch. No wires can be seen any where.

I ran mine into the switched power for the radio. Took 5 minutes. Pull the bezel off. Unclip the radio. Locate the switched and ground and feed the stripped RD wires into the harness. Sits right above my radio now, wire runs in behind the bezel. Turns on and off with the truck.

I would be carefull putting the RD ABOVE the rear view, the tint that is on the window will degrade peroformance...

The degredation of signal reciept is waaay overcome by the additional range of longer line of sight to the horizon of high mounting vs. dash mounting. The additional range of 14-16" higher mounting is pretty significant.
