Remote Starters

On my 98 Z71 it was a snap to have my Viper 550 ESP installed and to have the ultra long range remote starter work without an issue. After checking the local stores for their opinion on what will work for my 2002 GMC Sierra, they are telling me it's a different ballgame and that it will run me big bucks to get the remote start installed due to some computer issues or some jibberish.

My question is, if it can be done on newer trucks, what models to you guys recommend and where can I find them? I just need remote start, with the range or 800 or so feet, winter is coming and it's nice to have the truck all fired up with the snow melted off by the time I head out to get in for work. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought a remote starter from the k mart just before it closed down by me for 20 dollars or so. Did the install myself and had to buy another 40 dollar part to bypass the built in passive security system that cuts off fuel flow - but it wasn't a big deal. It worked well enough, got the job done, but it didn't have much range (for 20 bucks I didn't expect anything more). Point is if you get a good Viper one you should be set.

I have a Bulldog in mine. No issues with the install. Do a search for "remote starter" and I'm sure you can find my old posts from about two years ago (~10/2001).
