Discoloration on polished aluminum rims

I have a question on polished aluminum rims. (I wasnt sure if I should start the thread in this forum or the "maintenance" forum, so feel free to move me if necessary) Okay, now down to the question. Yesterday I was washing my truck and I noticed when I got to my rims that the front rims are starting to get a brownish-red coloration on them. Its not rust, but it sort of looks like the aluminum is getting too hot from the brakes and started to get a "burned-metal" color. I see it only around the lugnut area, where it comes into contact with the axle. Any idea if this will come off with a normal polishing up? Or am I doomed to have this color on the rim forever??

This is most likely brake dust. You have to keep up with polishing them if you dont want it to be embedded in there forever. Your best bet is to get some Mothers mag wheel polish and rub away. Then wax them up afterward. Do that periodically and you shouldnt have that problem. With the mothers its best to use small amounts and keep using different parts of the rag. Hope this helps.
