Can bluetooth be added to an 08?

I have a 2008 Silverado LTZ 2500 Duramax.  Is it possible to integrate bluetooth from the later models (whenever bluetooth was introduced in 2011/2012?) into the 2008?  Is bluetooth controlled by the radio, or seperate modules?

The factory unit is a separate module, with a whole bunch of other stuff (harnesses, mic, etc.).
