TRUCK RADIO; Interference

Hi Ya'll,

Recently the radio in my '00 GMC Sierra has developed a high-pitched squeal that you can hear in the background while the radio is tuned to AM. You can increase the volume and the squeal would increase in volume as well. Also, whenever I power the windows the radio buzzes static. Seems to buzz loader when I power the passenger side window. Plus, after turning the ignition off, while the radio plays under accessary power, static occurs as I remove the key from the ignition. The interference doesn't seem to be present unless the engine is running and it doesn't happen all the time. The severity seems to fluctuate when it does occur.

FM fine, thanks for asking.

Any input, folks?

M.

Bad ground somewhere in your with your radio, but AM picks up all sorts of noise like that good luck trying to fix it....my mom had a 89 caddy, started that in AM about a year after she bought it. GM replaced the radio, to no avail....had a stereo shop look at it, but they couldn't fix it either....

Do stations still broadcast in AM....

My fuel gauge is on the blitz, sometimes. Methinks it's the fuel level thingy in the tank.

Think the interference might be related? Also, the AutoTrac switch module was giving me problems. Replaced it last week. The interference started before I replaced the switch but didn't go away.

The interference is not present all the time, comes and goes.

The only thing I listen to on AM is Rush Limbaugh.

your a.m. radio will emit a high pitch "squeal " when you have anything plugged into the power jacks in the dash eg cell phone charger-if so -just unplug while on a.m.

I second that about makeing sure nothing is plugged in such as cell phones, portable TVs/DVD players, etc. If the noise is still present, pull the radio out, check all connections to make sure they are tight, and then you may need to invest in a RF filter of some sort which you can get from Radio Shack.

And I listen to AM most of the day while working (Dr. Laura in the mornings, Tom Martino (Trouble Shooter) in the afternoons, and I will swtich between stations to get traffic reports here in Denver, the 3rd worse traffic city in America!)

AM is definitly not dead, especially when it comes to sports, and to get away from all those stupid stations on FM that play the same crap everyday or Christmas music 24/7 2 months before christmas. <grin>

It's been awhile since I heard any interference on AM.

Methinks replacing the Auto-Trac module might have something to do with it eventhough the interference was present after the change but eventually disappeared.

As a note I do have a cellphone charger in one of the accessory plugs and still do.
