electric power steering problems

2008 Saturn Vue XE, 2.4L, front wheel drive. Power steering only works when the vehicle is moving. There is also a grinding I can hear and feel when I turn the wheel. The grinding seems to be coming from the base of the steering wheel. It is an electric power steering system. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

  Have you updated the phone version? I had that issue when I first got truck and updating the phone fixed that.

  I bought my '26 Sierra Denali 1500 LZ0 about two weeks ago. Thursday, at 500 miles, I got the "Reduced Acceleration" message on the DIC along with the CEL on the dash. Limped it 13 miles home. I did not notice any unusual noises. I was only able to pull one code with my scanner, P06DD. Had it towed to the dealer. They are saying that the the crankshaft end play is within spec and there is no excessive metal in the oil. They will be replacing the oil control valve solenoid. Has anyone had or heard about this issue and it was not related to thrust bearing failure? I'm just wondering what to expect after the repair and what to look out for.
