I was thinking about putting 3.73 in place of my 4.10. I think i found parts for about $300...how much work is it? will it help gas mileage? I dont tow all that much...so that shouldnt be a problem...oh yeah its a 2500HD with a 6.o. Thanks

well if you have 4:10 s and are running 285's I would not change the gears because you have actually droped your ratio with the larger tires.Running 285's with 4:10's your current ratio would be 3.785 So your pretty close to 3:73 right now. You can calculate it here------>Axle Ratio/Tire Size Calulator

Is that bad boy a 2wd?

Because if it's a 4wd, you will have to do the gears in the front as well.

Just thought I would throw that out there.

I agree with those guys; a 4wd will require that both axles get done, and essentially you're running close to a 3.73 right now (effective ratio, obviously not the real ratio).

Why the change? Gas mileage will not be that much different, but performance certainly will (and for the worse). It's somewhat expensive to do, and whoever does it has to be pretty good at it because if the gears aren't shimmed up properly you're in for a lot of trouble.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. But that's just me...
