I just bought a 2020 GMC 2500 SLT(really good price) but it didn't come with all the fancy cameras. I would love to add the trailer camera but the truck doesn't have the 2 plugs above the 7 pin plug. I assume this isnt going to work but I wonder if I can buy the oem parts and just add it. But I bet the BCM controls it. Wish I could add all the cameras

It is going to be a radio issue. If you have anything but and IOR radio you are in luck. I am experiencing the same thing trying to get side view cameras. Basically you have a sliding rear window or you don't. From my digging so far all I find is a different wire harness with an additional 2 pins for the upgraded infotainment systems.

I am exploring my options for different camera views using a full display rear view mirror. Unfortunately the center stack is not looking promising. I am still waiting to hear back from the dealer. The dealer isn't telling me it can't be done. It just requires lots of the dash to be pulled out. It looks like GM may not be willing to sell the harnesses or the radio equipment. Anyone can get the radio equipment from Infotainment. The problem is the lack of wiring harness to connect it all.

I am sick of folks tell me to go buy a new truck if I want cameras..... Maybe one day when they want a new outlet in their home they will be told to go buy a new home that already has the outlet they are looking for. BTW to all those folks out there try and go buy a new truck that doesn't exist.

Thank you,

I guess I missed something... I have a sliding rear window and the touch screen infotainment.  I'm not even sure how to check/find build sheets to determine if that means I have the IOR.

Just use your camera on your phone and scan the QR code inside your door. It will list all the build codes for your truck

Bumping this as I have found some information that might be able to help those looking for this info. Once I get my truck in, I will try it out and report back:

Based on a few threads between 1550 and 2500 forums, the following 3 OEM parts would be needed to retrofit the vehicle to accept the OEM AUX camera(s) so long as you have the IOS Premium Infotainment System (if you have 'trailering apps', then you have it):

  1. Swap out high-mount third brake light to part# 84699124 (w/ bed camera w/o Mirror camera -- ~$100)
  2. Swap Trailer harness receptacle with part# 13530416 or 13526856 (~$75 - $95)
  3. Add OEM Video Control Module 'VPM'

Open question: Does the IOS infotainment require an update or will it recognize the VPM & additional camera(s) once plugged in? Are pigtails for the VPM already prewired into the body harness?

My build for reference: 2022 2500HD SLE w/ Premium GMC Infotainment System and Trailering Apps. Unfortunately the dealer did not advise me to add the $250 bed camera option to ensure invisible trailer works.

Photo from another thread in the 1500 forums showing the pigtails hanging behind the rear bumper for the AUX camera input:

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
