2014 2500HD, different wheel base?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking into buying a 2014 Silverado 2500HD with 6,6L diesel engine. My issue is that has been an ambulance, sold without the bed. I tried to figure out which bed length to purchase, only to discover something strange with the wheel base. It is registered as 3785 mm, meaning 149 inches. I would have thought the wheel base to be either 153 or 157 inches?

It has the regular cab.

Anyone know if this is a normal lenght? Or something specific for an ambulance?

Regards,

First, if it's an ambulance, they generally don't have a regular silverado cab, they typically use a shorter van-style cab.

Second, it'll be a cab&chassis, which has a different frame than a regular pickup truck, and also a different rear axle.

You could put a regular truck bed on it, but it'll take a bunch of fabbing and likely a different rear axle, and it won't look right.
