New Transmission Cooler

Hey all,

 

I have a question concerning the install of a new transmission cooler on my 03' Silverado with the 4L60E and 4.8L. I purchased a kit from the dealer containing a cooler, the lines and all the appropriate fittings.

 

If anyone has installed one of these, how long should this take? Any thing to look out for?

 

For reference, I installed a cooler on my 1989 Chevy truck with a 305 V8 and TH700R4... Hopefully, it should be about that easy?? Anyways, thanks for the help.

This should be really easy. I believe you just extend from the inlet and outlet lines into the radiator. And zip tie the cooler to the front of the condenser somewhere. Shouldn't need alot of tools.

You said you bought the cooler from a dealer. Is it a factory GM tranny cooler? If so, it likely has the stamped steel brackets on it to mount it infront of the radiator.

 

Does it include rubber hose or hard aluminum oil lines? If its a factory GM cooler, it probably just bolts right in.

 

If its an aftermarket cooler, you'll likely have to ziptie the cooler to the front of the radiator, and then splice into the oil lines. Its really an easy job.

 

Your truck will have a tranny cooler in the radiator from the factory. To find where its going, follow the 2 hard aluminum lines coming out the passenger's side of the tranny up to the radiator. Your going to want to use the factory tranny cooler with the aftermarket cooler.

 

I run my aftermarket tranny coolers like this:

Tranny output --> Aftermarket tranny cooler --> Factory tranny cooler --> Tranny input

 

The factory tranny fluid lines are usually aluminum until you get close to the radiator, where they become rubber. This is where you can splice into the lines, and redirect the tranny fluid flow.

It's the direct OEM replacement part from GM. It is comprised of a cooler, the mounting hardware, and two lines (metal with quick connect fittings on each end.)

 

I'll be installing it soon, if time permits. Thanks for the insight!
